St Andrews Skills Academy

The St Andrews Skills Academy is an innovative initiative to bring training provision in St Andrews and the surrounding area under a single umbrella. It involves Colleges and other quality-approved training providers working together with employers to develop and co-ordinate a programme of training to identify and meet local needs. It is aimed largely, but not exclusively, at service industry businesses, including those in the hospitality, tourism and retail sectors.

The aims of the Skills Academy are:

To improve the range of training available to the hospitality industry and other business sectors.

To increase the amount of training undertaken by businesses.

To raise skills and productivity, improving customer satisfaction and business performance.

To raise retention levels by motivating employees through continuing professional development and clearer career opportunities.

To improve the attractiveness of the hospitality sector as a career choice.

To create job opportunities for Fife residents, including the unemployed and economically inactive.

Over time, to put St Andrews on the map as the place in the UK to come for education and training in the hospitality sector – raising the town’s profile as a world-class destination.

The St Andrews Skills Academy provides a one-stop, user-friendly service to employers and staff at every level—from the pre-recruitment stage through apprentice, supervisory and management levels.
