The Hamilton School/The Children's House
The Hamilton School is Aberdeen's youngest Independent School. As the founder of The Hamilton, I have seen it evolve its individual character. That character reflects the aims and philosophy of all those who have been committed to the positive growth of our school. The development of The Hamilton has been partly design and partly organic, a very positive process, which embodies the influences of those that have taught and learned here.
I aim to ensure that each pupil has the capacity and ability to live successfully in our uncertain world. With this in mind, our life is designed to be as rich as is possible. More specifically, we aim to encourage hard work, take pride in achievement, to think independently, to face up to challenge, to accept responsibility and to develop wider skills and interests. At the earliest stages in Nursery, Pre-School and Reception our practice coincides with the thinking of Maria Montessori an Italian pedagogist who was committed to the encouragement of opportunity for the successful development of each individual.
The Hamilton is a Scottish School, not solely by its location but in its preservation of Scottish traditions and values. Our girls wear kilts on a daily basis. Scottish literature, history, music and poetry are introduced throughout. Our Primary School classes are named after Scottish castles and our Early Years groups after Scottish islands, while our House System is named after Scottish mountain ranges. Many of our pupils are Scottish, however, The Hamilton is cosmopolitan with families from throughout the world. We are a wonderful cultural mix and we continue to welcome children who may not be Scottish by birth, but who will thereafter retain a little that is Scottish.
Mere words cannot convey the atmosphere of our school, its warmth and vitality, the commitment of all that are within our walls. I hope that you will come and visit The Hamilton to meet us and judge for yourself.
