The Career Development Institute (CDI) is currently developing SVQs at levels 3 & 4, a level 3 Modern Apprenticeship and level 4 Technical Apprenticeship in career development. The SVQs are Level 3 Enabling clients to access career development services (a first contact signposting/ referral role) and Level 4 Career Information, Advice & Employability Support for practitioners supporting individuals to access and retain learning, training and employment opportunities.
These qualifications and MA Frameworks are targeted at the wider career development sector in Scotland and are being developed in response to demand from employers to fill this current gap in accredited training provision. These qualifications are at sub professional level but could provide a route to professional post graduate study.
Both the SVQs and MA provision could be of interest to the extensive workforce operating in the field of career information and advice or employability support eg DWP/JobCentre Plus; FE/HE Institutions; Training Providers; Welfare to Work providers; Local Development Agencies; Local Authorities; Third Sector organisations including those supporting individuals with protected characteristics and all organisations involved in delivering career development services to individuals or organisations. Recent consultations within the sector have highlighted significant demand for the SVQs and MA Frameworks at both levels 3 & 4.
It is anticipated that this provision will have gone through the approval process by end of 2015 and the qualifications will be available for delivery by providers in 2016.
