The 2017 Industry Apprentice Council annual report has launched with a warning that formal qualifications and continuous assessment are essential to maintain the quality of apprenticeships in engineering and related sectors. Of 1,198 apprentices surveyed, 92% want to retain formal qualifications.
The report also contains damning findings on careers advice, with just 22% of industry apprentices saying theirs had been good. However, the positive news is that on the whole industry apprentices are happy with 98% saying they were glad they made the choice to do an apprenticeship.
The IAC is looking for new members from engineering-related employers in Scotland and is seeking to engage with the government, industry and other stakeholders regarding the findings in the report and Modern Apprentices’ experiences of the system in Scotland.
