The Scottish Government published its draft budget for 2016-17 in mid-December. Included in the full report – which runs to 175 pages – is a commitment to expand the Education Maintenance Allowance and Modern Apprenticeship programmes.
The budget for the Fair Work, Skills and Training portfolio – which includes Modern Apprenticeships, pre-employment training and implementation of the Youth Employment strategy – has been reduced in real terms from £261.6 million to £248.3 million.
The Skills Development Scotland budget has been cut from £183.5 million to £176.1 million.
