Maria is an active STF Board member and part of its specialist Apprenticeship Expert Group, supporting the membership through various strategic groups in lobbying for those delivering training, apprenticeships and employability programmes.
She has represented the college network through the Colleges Work-based Learning Group, (CWBLG), which she has chaired; this is a collaboration of Scotland’s colleges whose members work with government programmes.
An extensive career in education and training working in the college sector, and with secondments to Renfrewshire Enterprise and the Scottish Wider Access Programme, (SWAP), she is also a past chair and member of the Modern Apprenticeship Group, (MAG).
Maria is a passionate advocate for lifelong learning and the right training opportunities for all, to ensure everyone is equipped with the skills needed to remain competitive and productive in a changing global economy.
Maria was elected to the STF Board in November 2006 and is one of its longest serving Directors. In November 2022, Maria was elected as Joint Vice Chair Apprenticeships. In November 2023, she was elected as Vice Chair Apprenticeships.
