Stuart is Chief Executive of the Scottish Training Federation (STF) and was appointed to the role in February 2015. For the last 30 years, he has worked for a range of different organisations engaged with skills and training, in roles which have been mainly focussed around developing and promoting Modern Apprenticeships.
Prior to joining STF, Stuart was the Director of Skills at GoSkills – the Sector Skills Council for the Passenger Transport sector. He has also worked with Scottish Government, Sector Skills Alliance Scotland and COSLA. From 2003-2007 he was Vice Chair of the Board of Management of Cardonald College in Glasgow.
Stuart a member of the Apprenticeship Approvals Group (AAG) and the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board (SAAB).
In March 2021, he was appointed to the SQA Advisory Council and joined SQA’s Qualifications Committee in November 2022. He is also a member of the SQA/Scottish Government Transition Board which has been set up to oversee activities relating to the creation of the new qualifications body, Qualifications Scotland.
